2 off-duty DOC officers shot at Queens bar while at celebration

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Two off-duty city Department of Correction officers were shot while celebrating an event with co-workers at a Queens bar early Saturday, police Saturday.

The victims, a 29-year-old woman  and a 31-year-old man, were at Showtime Bar and Lounge on 101st Avenue in Richmond Hill as part of a colleague’s going-away party around 2:30 a.m. when a different group at the bar started to become rowdy, authorities said.

After the other group was kicked out of the bar, a person from their party returned and opened fire randomly, sending several rounds through a window in the bar, police said.

The 29-year-old officer was hit in the ankle while the 31-year-old was shot in the hand. Both were taken to Jamaica Hospital where the victim shot in the hand received surgery, officials said.

No other injuries were reported.

The shooter fled the scene and no arrests have been made at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.
