2 NYPD officers hurt in fiery collision in Brooklyn; driver charged

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A driver was charged after two NYPD officers were injured in a crash Sunday night in Brooklyn, according to authorities.

The NYPD officers were responding to a call at around 10:45 p.m. in Dyker Heights when a man driving a BMW failed to yield at the intersection of 8th Avenue and 65th Street, police said.

The police vehicle caught on fire after the collision caused it to hit a pole, officials said.

Police say the vehicle's lights and sirens were activated.

The 39-year-old driver kept going but later returned to scene, the NYPD said.

The driver was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Both NYPD officers were taken to an area hospital and treated for minor injuries.

An investigation remains ongoing.
