8 people injured in Upper East Side apartment fire: FDNY

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Eight people were injured in an Upper East Side apartment building fire Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.

The FDNY said units responded at around 3:19 p.m. after the blaze engulfed an area on the 10th floor of a 16-story apartment building on East 72nd Street, near Second Avenue.

Officials said the blaze quickly reached a 2nd alarm, bringing about 100 additional firefighters and 25 units to the scene.

Five civilians suffered non-life threatening injuries and three firefighters suffered minor injuries, authorities said. The blaze was under control at 4:35 p.m.
