NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Eric Adams on Wednesday pushed back against the idea that his secret second office was used as a means to escape public scrutiny.
The office, which is housed at the Verizon Building just a short walk from City Hall, was revealed in a Politico report on Wednesday.
The skyscraper at 375 Pearl Street overlooking the East River also leases space to the Deputy Mayor of Public Safety, the NYPD, the Human Resources Administration, the Department of Finance and the Department of Sanitation.
Adams’ previously undisclosed office is reportedly housed in a converted conference room on the 30th floor of the building.
During an unrelated press conference, Adams claimed he’s only used the office four times at most.
“I move around to different city office spaces,” said Adams. “Sometimes I need to do a Zoom, and I can’t get back to City Hall right away. . . Sometimes I want to do a meeting in that area. It could be an elderly across the street in the NYCHA and she can’t come all the way to City Hall.”
This particular office is a 10-minute walk from City Hall.
The mayor scoffed at the idea that his second office could be used to avoid the scrutiny of reporters, City Council members and other prying eyes at City Hall.
“Whenever you have Eric Adams’ name in a story you get a lot of clicks. So people just find ways. Hey he ate fish — clicks,” he said, referencing the time he lied about eating vegan and then was photographed eating fish. “It’s not a secret location. It is a space that we utilize to do work.”
