NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Mayor Adams warned members of his new anti-gun team on Sunday that they’d be fired from the force if they participate in misconduct or targeted tactics.

Adams, who recently announced the new team amidst a surge of gun crimes, faced public concerns that the force would resemble controversial anti-crime units of the past.
“If you don’t follow the law, you’re not going to serve in my police department,” Adams warned his cops in an interview with WBLS 107.5FM.
Adams has repeatedly insisted the unit, dubbed “Neighborhood Safety Teams,” will not repeat the mistakes previous teams made and will serve as “real guardrails” for preventing police misconduct.
The mayor added that prior teams were abusive units who targeted and profiled people.
The officers on the new team, equipped with the right training, will be required to wear body cameras that must be turned on for any interactions and will face termination for not adhering to the strict policies.
Adams also added that the new anti-gun team will not be plainsclothes officers, rather, they will have a modified uniform identifying them as police officers.
