NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — The MTA has officially installed security cameras at every subway station in New York City, the agency said Monday.

The Broadway G train station in Williamsburg became the 472nd and final subway station to get security cameras on Saturday, the MTA said in a press release.

The agency expedited its security camera project this past year after then-Interim NYC Transit president Sarah Feinberg “identified a new class of cameras that could be deployed more quickly and much lower cost than traditional cameras,” the release explained.

“We have delivered on Sarah’s commitment to accelerate the camera roll-out as we look to restore confidence in the system,” Acting NYC Transit President Craig Cipriano said in a statement.

“We recognize safety and security are top concerns for our customers, as they return to our system, and this is a significant tool in our effort to enhance rider safety,” he added.

The subway system has seen a 20.6% drop in “major felonies” and a 28.6% rise in arrests so far this year thanks, in part, to the installation of security cameras, the release said, citing NYPD data.

The MTA will continue to install additional cameras throughout the subway system, the release noted.
