NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Andrew Giuliani, the son of former President Donald Trump’s personal attorney and former mayor of New York City Rudy Giuliani, has announced that he will run for governor of New York next year.

Giuliani, 35, who will run as a Republican, is no stranger to politics and most recently worked as a top aide for Trump during his presidency.

“I’m a politician out of the womb. It’s in my DNA,” Giuliani told The New York Post, referring to his father.

"I think it's time that New York get turned around. I'm sick and tired of seeing New Yorkers leaving to Florida, to Texas, to Tennessee, and I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure that New York is not just the cultural center of the world again, but the economic center of the world," Giuliani told "Good Day New York."

He'll face some heavy-hitters in the GOP primary, including Long Island Congressman Lee Zeldin and former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, who ran against Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2014.

Cuomo, a Democrat, has indicated that he does plan to seek a fourth term.

"Andrew Cuomo is only focused on Andrew Cuomo, he does not care about the welfare of New Yorkers," Giuliani said.

Giuliani first said that he was considering a run for governor last month.
