NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A Brooklyn man who violently attacked two NYPD police officers in 2020 pleaded guilty to several counts in federal court on Wednesday, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced.

Flatbush resident, 22-year-old Dzenan Camovic, approached two officers stationed near Church and Flatbush avenues just before midnight on June 3 where he stabbed one of the officers in the neck and threw his knife at the other officer, officials said.
One of the officers, Yayon Frantz Jean Pierre, fired his gun at Camovic and tripped, authorities said. Camovic and Jean Pierre then got into a struggle over the officer’s gun. Camovic eventually gained control of the gun and shot it at the other officer, Randy Ramnarine, hitting him in the hand.
Camovic proceeded to fire the gun at more officers who were responding to the scene, according to court documents, hitting another officer in the hand.
Three officers were taken to the hospital, two with gunshot wounds and one with stab wounds, where they recovered.
Camovic was also hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds and recovered.

“This case highlights the incredible dangers faced by police officers working to protect our neighborhoods, and we have no tolerance for anyone who attempts to do them harm. In outrageous acts of violence, this defendant stabbed a police officer in the neck as he stood on the corner, and then shot his partner and a responding officer,” said DA Gonzelez. “Today’s guilty plea and the significant sentence this defendant faces will ensure he is held accountable for this vicious and unprovoked attack.”
Camovic pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment. He faces up to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced on August 4.
