NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The owner of a Manhattan bodega was arrested Friday for allegedly fatally stabbing a man during a fight over a bag of chips, authorities said.

Jose Alba, 51, initially got into an argument with a woman at his bodega–Hamilton Heights Grocery– on West 139th Street and Broadway Friday night. She apparently wanted to buy a bag of chips but did not have enough cash to pay for them, officials said.
The woman, who was with a child, stormed out of the store and got 37-year-old Austin Simon, according to police.
Simon and Alba allegedly got into a verbal argument that turned physical when Simon apparently “went around the counter” and attacked Alba who in turn stabbed Austin in the chest, the NYPD said.
Officers responded to the bodega after a 911 call about an assault in progress just after 11 p.m. Cops found Simon stabbed twice in the chest and once in the neck.
Simon was later pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital.
Police brought Alba in for questioning and later charged him with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. A knife was also recovered at the scene.
