
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A six-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was hit by a car while crossing the street in Brooklyn’s Dyker Heights neighborhood on Sunday afternoon, according to police.

His mother was crossing 78th Street near the Fort Hamilton Parkway with her son following slightly behind her when a Jeep driving eastbound struck the child just before 2:30 p.m., authorities said.
Emergency responders rushed the boy to a nearby hospital in critical condition with leg and head injuries.
Despite his serious injuries, he is expected to survive.
The driver remained at the scene and waited for police to arrive.
The NYPD did not immediately file charges against the driver.
