The show, which opened on Broadway in December 2016 and has played at the Music Box Theater since then, has gone on to have a 2021 movie adaptation featuring its original star, Ben Platt.

In a statement, lead producer Stacey Mindich said the six-time Tony-winning musical has produced "two great joys that stand out above all the others (and there are many)" since the earliest reading of the show in 2011.

"One is the sweeping and soaring show itself, which never fails to make me think, cry, laugh and try to be a better mother and person," she added. "The other is watching the profound change in the audience from when they walk into the theater to when they leave."

When the show wraps up, it will have had 1,678 regular performances and 21 preview performances, which Deadline reports will make it one of the 50 longest-running Broadway shows in history.

Its Broadway closure will follow the end of its West End production, which will finish its run this October. However, the show still has an ongoing North American tour.

The New York Times reports that "Dear Evan Hansen" was regularly grossing more than $1 million a week prior to its forced pandemic shutdown. Since the show reopened in December 2021, it has reportedly struggled to maintain the same numbers.

Mindich said that she is "grateful to have been part" of bringing the "musical to life," adding that it "has captured the hearts of so many, impacted millions of audience members across the globe, and literally changed lives with its with its breathtaking score and its vital and universal message."
