Ephrem Jusino is charged with assault to a police officer causing serious physical injury, leaving the scene of an incident with serious injury, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and traffic infractions for the Dec. 9 incident in Hicksville.
According to detectives, a black Nissan Altima with Pennsylvania license plates was seen by cops from the Bureau of Special Operations committing "multiple traffic infractions" around 3:40 p.m. while traveling westbound on Old Country Road at Duffy Avenue.
The car was stopped with two men inside, and police demanded the driver, later identified as Jusino, hand over his license and the vehicle's registration, but he refused, Nassau County police said.
Jusino sped off after being asked once more, striking the officer in the foot and hand and dragging him several feet before leaving the scene.
The department said the injured officer was taken to an area hospital where he underwent treatment for his injuries.
He has been out of work since the incident and undergone four surgeries, according to a news release.
Jusino was ultimately arrested by police in Deer Park on Wednesday afternoon.
The 40-year-old is slated to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
