NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A Brooklyn man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for fatally shooting his brother inside their shared apartment in East New York three years ago.
Jahmorley Gayle, 36, was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison and five years post-release supervision after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter in September.

According to Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, Gayle was inside his residence on April 22, 2018 around 11:45 a.m. when he called 911 to report that he has killed his brother, 37-year-old Jahimel Gayle.
When officers arrived, they found the victim’s lifeless body wedged against the bedroom door, which had a head-level bullet hole.
Prosecutors said the victim suffered a fatal wound to his neck.
Officers found a gun in the kitchen cabinet, which matched the ballistic evidence and contained the defendant’s DNA on the trigger and trigger guard, Gonzalez said.
Gayle initially claimed that another person committed the murder, but video surveillance showed that no one entered the apartment at the time of the crime and the windows of the apartment were secured with bars.
He later confessed to investigators that he had killed his brother.
Following an evaluation, a psychiatrist concluded Gayle was suffering from acute delusional disorder during the murder, saying his actions stemmed from heavy cocaine use.
“This is a senseless and tragic case that destroyed a family – one brother is dead, and another is behind bars,” Gonzalez said. “The defendant admitted his guilt and will now have to live with the consequences of this terrible decision.”
