NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Some branches of the Brooklyn and Queens public library system had their doors shut this week and others dealt with reduced hours due to COVID-related staffing shortages.

Ten locations around Brooklyn were closed on Monday as BPL encouraged patrons to check the status of branches before visiting.
Queens Public Library also announced six location closures around the borough on Twitter as of Monday.
Despite the physical locations being shuttered, the library encouraged their visitors to take advantage of other offerings from the libraries including checking out materials online and attending virtual programs and events.
The announcement comes as the city tackles the omicron surge and increase in coronavirus cases with New York City reporting 30,449 COVID cases and 518 hospitalizations.
The uptick in COVID cases has also caused staff shortages in several other businesses and agencies including Chase Bank and the MTA.
