NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Over 50 residents of seven NYCHA public housing complexes on Coney Island are suing the public housing authority and other city agencies for continued issues stemming from Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

The lawsuit, which was filed in Brooklyn housing court, alleges some residents have been left without gas for over a year, according to documents obtained by Gothamist.

Most of the residents listed as plaintiffs for the lawsuit are suffering gas outages caused by a botched Hurricane Sandy repair effort.

NYCHA was attempting to replace boilers and generators damaged by the storm, but destroyed gas lines while doing so.

Residents of one development claim they have been without gas since Aug. 30, 2021. Residents of another location say they’ve been without gas for seven months.

A NYCHA spokesperson told Gothamist the authority will not comment on pending litigation.
