NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- If you feel you may have been exposed to COVID over Thanksgiving break, you may want to hold off on getting tested right away to get a more accurate result.
Dr. David Hirschwerk, with Northwell Health, said getting tested two to seven days after exposure is best for an accurate result.
“A negative test two days out after exposure would not necessarily mean that you’re not going to subsequently become positive for COVID,” Hirschwerk said.
The potential for false-negative COVID tests is also a real concern, especially now that people are traveling for the holidays against CDC guidelines.
“A negative test does not guarantee that one does not have the infection, and even a negative test still there is a need to adhere to these mitigation measures,” Hirschwerk said.
He advises people to work from home this upcoming week if they’re able to.
“I think it’s a good idea,” he said, encouraging people to also consider “the individuals at the workplace who may be exposed.”
