NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The city's Sanitation Department has the highest share of employees seeking coronavirus vaccine exemptions among all city agencies, according to a report.

Nearly 13% of the DSNY workforce — 1,310 employees — have requested exemptions to Mayor Bill de Blasio's vaccine mandate for public workers, Gothamist reported Saturday.
The NYPD, though, has the largest number of exemption requests among agencies. About 11% of the department’s workforce — or 6,170 employees — have requested exemptions. The Fire Department followed with 1,850 employees — or about 10% of its workforce — applying for exemptions according to the report.
While many feared a worker shortage crisis, thousands of public workers to got vaccinated before de Blasio's late-October deadline. As of Nov. 11, 93% of the city’s workforce had been vaccinated.
NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea earlier this week said he believed many of the NYPD holdouts will get vaccinated if their exemptions aren’t approved.
“If decisions are made to reject some of the reasonable accommodations, I anticipate that a number of those people will get the shots,” Shea said during an appearance on NY1 Tuesday.
