Ishmael Bailey, 38, of Staten Island, was charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a controlled substance, official misconduct, bribe receiving and conspiracy.

According to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, the former NYPD officer was busted in August 2019, when he agreed to meet with a drug dealer – who was actually an undercover cop – about transporting drugs within Queens.

During the first meeting on Aug. 27, Bailey allegedly agreed to provide security for the “dealer” and asked for a cash payment for each kilo of cocaine that was securely transported.

Katz said Bailey showed up to help transport the drugs from Astoria to a parking lot in College Point on Sept. 4, 2019. He was paid $2,500 after handing over a bag containing one kilo of cocaine, and two empty containers, to a second undercover cop.

According to the charges, Bailey met with the first undercover officer again on Sept. 12, 2019, and was paid cash to act as a security guard. He was also given $10,000 cash to pick up two kilos of cocaine from a location in Maspeth.

“This defendant, who took an oath to uphold the law, is alleged to have helped protect ‘drug dealers’ and to have personally transported cocaine from various location in Queens in August and September 2019,” DA Katz said. “I would like to thank the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau for their hard work investigating this case.”

He was arrested after the Sept. 12 incident, in which he handed over cash to an individual at the Maspeth meeting spot and retrieved two packages – one of which contained a kilo of cocaine.

Bailey resigned from the NYPD following his arrest.

He is due back in court on March 8, 2022. If convicted, Bailey faces up to 15 years in prison.
