NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police have arrested the man accused of fatally a former NYPD officer Wednesday night, police said.
Eric Wilson, 26, was charged with murder, two counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon after Nicholas Nelson, 37, was found dead Wednesday night.
Just before 8 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of a man stabbed in front of 25 Elizabeth St. in West New Brighton.
Upon arrival, officers observed Nelson with a stab wound to his neck.
EMS transported him to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Sources told the New York Post the victim was ex-police officer Nicholas Nelson and that the two got into a fight when Wilson allegedly tried to open Nelson’s car door while his son was inside.
Nelson, who joined the force in 2008 but was fired in 2021, reportedly brought his children to their mother's home on Elizabeth Street, but Wilson followed and remained outside, yelling for him to come outside.
He was then fatally stabbed in the neck. Wilson, who sources told the paper is "emotionally disturbed" and has seven prior arrests, allegedly left after the killing but was arrested and charged Thursday morning.
it's unclear if the two men knew one another, the sources added.
