NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 47-year-old FDNY firefighter from Long Island is being honored this weekend after a tragic accident Monday during a training exercise.

The Islip man, Firefighter William “Billy” Moon II, died after he fell at least 20 feet from an elevated surface during the training.

Firefighters lined up outside of NYU Langone Hospital Saturday night to honor Moon as he was transferred to the hospital so his organs could be harvested for donation.

A bunting ceremony took place outside of Rescue Company 2 in Brownsville Sunday morning as colleagues and loved ones paid their respects.

Moon leaves behind his wife and two young children. In a statement read by FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh on Friday, his wife spoke of his passion and love for the job.
