CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — A former NYPD officer pleaded guilty on Friday in an alleged murder-for-hire plot to kill her estranged husband and her boyfriend’s teenage daughter.

During the afternoon, Valerie Cincinelli, 36, pleaded guilty to one count of obstruction in federal court in Central Islip on Long Island.

WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall was in the courtroom and says Cincinelli showed no signs of emotion until she started crying, saying she had not seen her son in over a year.

Hall reports Cincinelli then expressed some remorse and apologized for the alleged murder plot.

Prosecutors allege the former NYPD officer tried to pay a hitman with gold coins to kill her estranged husband, Isaiah Carvalho, as well as her now ex-boyfriend’s daughter.

According to WABC, her then-boyfriend, John DiRubba, was originally part of the plot and was tasked with hiring the hitman. However, he eventually confessed to authorities and worked with them to arrest Cincinelli.

On Friday, prosecutors said the former NYPD officer’s alleged motive behind the murder-for-hire plot was to ensure her ex-husband did not get any money from her pension. They say she also wanted the teen dead because she felt DiRubba was spending too much money on his daughter.

She had been suspended from the NYPD without pay at the time of her arrest but resigned from the department after 12 years last month.

Cincinelli’s sentencing date is scheduled for October and her recommended punishment is 60 months in federal prison.
