NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday 63 new “VaxForKids” pop-up sites designed to increase vaccination rates among children.

The clinics will offer COVID-19 vaccines to any child five years of age or older. The clinics will also provide booster shots to adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17.
The new pop-up clinics are in addition to 193 existing children’s vaccination sites.
"Over 1.6 million [New York] children have received the COVID-19 vaccine, and they are better protected because of it," said Hochul. "I urge every parent and guardian to make sure their child is vaccinated and up-to-date with all recommended vaccine doses."
Each site will run for six weeks and is overseen by a community-based medical professional.
Seven of the new clinics will be in New York City, making for a total of 17.
“These sites are conveniently located at schools, community centers and destinations like farmer's markets to make getting vaccinated safe, convenient and accessible,” said State Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett. “Getting vaccinated means you and your family can breathe a sigh of relief knowing you have the best protection against COVID-19 possible.”
According to the governor’s office, 37.4% of children 5 to 11 and 75.7% of children 12 to 17 have received at least one dose of the vaccine in New York.
