Onlookers at the Englewood Marina in Palisades Interstate Park tried unsuccessfully to rescue the man around 8:45 p.m., and by the time emergency responders arrived it was too late, officials said.
Divers from the NYPD’s harbor patrol unit recovered his body, and he was pronounced dead by the Bergen County Medical Examiner.
The man who drowned was a Nigerian national, according to authorities, but his name is being withheld pending notification of his family.
