Man charged in box cutter attack that wounded 2 during dispute on NJ street

HACKENSACK, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- A man was charged for slashing a man and stabbing a woman with a box cutter during a dispute on a New Jersey street on Monday, authorities said.

Jermaine Frye, 48, of Hackensack, was charged with second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree aggravated assault and various weapons offenses.

At approximately 2 p.m., police responded to a report of a man who had been arguing with two people in the vicinity of Hudson Street and Broadway in Hackensack on, police said.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 61-year-old man who had been slashed and a 32-year-old woman who had been stabbed, officials said.

The man “sustained a laceration to his one of his extremities, while the female suffered a puncture wound to her torso area,” said Hackensack Police Capt. Michael Antista.

According to Antista, the attacks occurred in the middle of the street during an argument with Frye.

The victims were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Frye He was held at the Bergen County Jail pending a court appearance, Antista said.
