Man critically injured after being hit by stolen flatbed truck, suspect sought

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Police are searching for a man who stole a flatbed truck in the Bronx on Friday and then struck a man while driving away, critically injuring him.

The suspect stole the vehicle, a 2002 Mitsubishi flatbed, at 8:15 a.m. while it was parked outside of a lumber yard on White Plains Road, police said.

A few minutes later, the suspect was driving the truck on White Plains Road when he hit a 49-year-old man who was standing next to his pick-up truck, officials said.

Surveillance footage from the scene show the victim tossed between his car and the stolen truck before being knocked to the ground as the flatbed speeds away.

The victim suffered severe body trauma, lacerations and broken bones. He was transported to Jacobi Hospital where he is in critical but stable condition. The victim’s car also sustained damage.

Later that day, around 4:15 p.m.,the suspect crashed the flatbed truck into a utility road near East 235 Street and White Plains Road and fled the scene on foot, authorities said.

The suspect is described as a Black male who is bald and in his late 50s to 60s.
