NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 50-year-old man was run over by his own Mercedes-Benz as he attempted to stop a thief from stealing his car on Wednesday, according to police.

The man left the car running outside a deli near the corner of Liberty and Autumn avenues in East New York around 10:20 p.m., officials said.

When he saw a man climb into his car, he ran out of the deli and grabbed the vehicle’s door in a vain attempt to stop the theft.

The man was dragged along the road as the thief sped off. When he finally let go, he was run over by the rear wheels, law enforcement said.

EMS rushed the victim to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center with a head injury.

Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Anonymous tips can also be submitted on the Crime Stoppers website or on Twitter @NYPDTips.
