NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 26-year-old Bronx man was sentenced to four years in prison for shoving a stranger into the subway tracks of a Harlem station last year, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said Thursday.

Keshon Malachiu was arguing with a booth worker at the 135th Street and Lenox Avenue subway station on May 8,2021 before shoving a 60-year-old man standing on the platform waiting for a train, court documents show.

Three bystanders were able to pull the victim up from the tracks. He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem to be treated for head and shoulder injuries, officials said.

“The subway is a necessity for New Yorkers and this behavior will not be tolerated. Keshon Malachi shoved a random stranger and today is being held accountable for his actions,” said Bragg. “I thank the NYPD and the brave straphangers who leapt into action to save their fellow New Yorker.”

On Nov. 10, 2022, Malachi pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted assault. Along with four years in prison, he received five years of post-release supervision.
