NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man was shot to death as he walked into a public housing building in Queens on Monday evening, police said Tuesday.
The 36-year-old victim, who hasn’t been identified by cops, was shot in the stomach at the Astoria Houses on Astoria Boulevard around 5:30 p.m.
He was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst but did not survive.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting weren’t immediately known. The victim was reportedly carrying groceries into 2-06 Astoria Blvd. when he was gunned down by a hooded man who immediately fled the area.
A witness described as a Parks Department employee told the Daily News that a single gunshot erupted “like thunder” and sparked a chaotic scene in which people were “running and screaming” in broad daylight.
The victim’s grieving sister reportedly arrived at some point, cursing at police and asking “Who shot my brother? Why can’t the police tell me?”
No arrests had been reported as of Tuesday as the investigation continued.
