Mass COVID-19 vaccination site opening at Citi Field this week

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A mass COVID-19 vaccination site is opening at Citi Field in Queens this week.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday that the site will specifically serve Taxi and Limousine Commission-licensed drivers, food delivery workers and Queens residents.

The site will open at 10 a.m. Wednesday. It will operate 24 hours a day from Wednesday through Saturday.

Eligible Queens residents can make an appointment online at vaccinefinder.nyc.gov or by calling 877-VAX-4NYC.

The Long Island Rail Road will make an additional stop at Mets-Willets Point on all Port Washington Branch trains to help transport people to and from the vaccination site.

The LIRR said the additional stop will be made indefinitely around the clock for as long as the vaccination site remains open.

"We are proud to provide LIRR service as an additional means of travel getting everyone vaccinated as quickly as possible in our fight against this pandemic," said LIRR President Phil Eng. "With the light at the end of the tunnel shining brighter we ask everyone to stay vigilant and practice all the necessary safety measures keeping yourself and others safe."

The 7 subway train and Q48 bus also make stops at Citi Field.

Last Friday, the city opened a vaccination site at Yankee Stadium, reserved for Bronx residents by appointment only.

Plans for both sites were announced last month, but their openings were delayed due to the nationwide vaccine shortage.
