The meeting is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at the NYPD headquarters in Lower Manhattan, sources told the Daily News. It comes as major index crimes are up over 40% this year, with increases in all but one crime, murder.

The gathering at 1 Police Plz. will be different from regular CompStat meetings in that it will be the mayor, not NYPD leaders, “grilling” commanding officers about crime stats, the sources said.

Among the topics on the agenda at the sit-down are homeless encampments, summons activity and the responsibilities of precinct “integrity control officers,” according to the report.

Adams’ press secretary, Fabian Levy, confirmed the mayor will be meeting with NYPD brass this weekend but said it’s nothing out of the ordinary.

“The mayor meets regularly with Commissioner [Keechant] Sewell and other top leaders at the NYPD to discuss the city’s crime prevention strategies for both the short and long-term, and will be doing so this weekend,” Levy said.

“As he has said, he is a general who leads from the front and someone who keeps his pulse on what is happening across the city, so it is imperative that he remain in constant contact with his law enforcement team,” Levy continued.

Adams also confirmed the meeting to the New York Post, saying he has a “major meeting this weekend with all of my commanders.”

“We’re going to sit down for several hours to get our summer plan in order, as well as, think how we deploy police,” the mayor told the paper.

Adams will ask each commanding officer to bring three ideas to reduce crime in their patrol areas, sources told the Post.

Index crime is up in nearly every category this year compared to 2021, with an overall increase of 42.8%, according to NYPD stats through April 24. Murder is the outlier—it's down 13.1%.

Rape is up 14.9%; robbery is up 46.7%; felony assault is up 21.4%; burglary is up 32.4%; grand larceny is up 54%; and car thefts are up 68.6%. Additionally, transit crime is up 65.3% and shooting incidents have ticked up 2.2%.
