“Tropical Storm Ida has brought significant loss and devastation to our great state,” said Murphy in a statement. “It is with immense sadness that we mourn the loss of all those who perished, and those who remain missing, in the wake of this historic storm. We vow to honor and remember each one them as part of our New Jersey family.”

New Jersey suffered the highest number of deaths due to the remnants of Hurricane Ida, which killed at least 50 people in the Northeast. Another 17 were killed in New York — 13 of those died in New York City.

President Joe Biden on Tuesday toured the storm’s devastation in Queens and Manville, New Jersey, issuing a grave warning of climate change’s wrath.

“Climate change poses an existential threat to our lives, to our economy, and the threat is here. It’s not going to get any better. We can stop it from getting worse,” he said. “The nation and the world are in peril. That’s not hyperbole. That is a fact.”
