A statement from Lawrence police alleged that Mitchell assaulted the victim multiple times since March.
Police learned of the allegations Aug. 4 from Princeton police, where Mitchell is an officer and where the incidents were initially reported, although they occurred in Lawrence.
Mitchell is currently suspended with pay from the Trenton Police Department pending a state-mandated hearing which will determine if he will continue to receive his salary, according to the department.
