NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Protesters at a rally in Greenwich Village on Saturday called for the impeachment of Gov. Andrew Cuomo as he faces growing allegations of sexual misconduct.

A diverse group of activists, elected officials, minimum wage minority workers and others gathered in the Washington Square Park, saying they were fed up with the governor.

Dozens of protesters chanted “Impeach Cuomo!” and “We believe survivors!” as speakers took the stage.

Among the speakers was Lindsey Boylan, the first woman to publicly accuse the governor of sexual harassment. Boylan, who is running for Manhattan borough president, wanted people to know, “I’m much more than a story you’ve heard in the news.”

“Someone who abuses their power doesn’t just do it to one woman or one community, they do it on some level to every person in every community,” Boylan said. “The only way we can hold this governor accountable is to impeach him. The Assembly must act swiftly.”

The state Assembly has opened up an impeachment investigation into the allegations against Cuomo. Boylan has been critical of the investigation and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, who authorized the probe.

“Speaker Heastie wields his power to protect the governor and uphold a system that dismisses and abuses us,” Boylan said. “New Yorkers deserve a transparent and honest impeachment process, not a sham investigation led by people with ties to Gov. Cuomo.”

The protest came less than 24 hours after an eighth woman accused the governor of inappropriate sexual behavior.

The protesters also wanted higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations to help working class people who can’t make ends meet.

Assemblymember Ron Kim, one of the early vocal critics of Cuomo’s handling of nursing homes during the pandemic, summed it all up.

“Cuomo is an abuser. Cuomo is a coward. Impeach Cuomo now! Tax the rich!” Kim said, leading protesters in a chant.
