NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – New York City will have a “large, wonderful celebration” in Times Square for New Year’s Eve this year, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday.

The mayor was mum on specifics during his daily briefing, saying more information would be released Tuesday, but he suggested a return to a more traditional New Year’s Eve celebration after the 2021 bash was held without a large crowd.
“We want to have a great New Year’s Eve celebration in this city,” de Blasio said. “We’re turning the corner. We’ve got a lot to celebrate. So it’s going to be a big moment in Times Square on New Year’s Eve.”
Pressed by 1010 WINS reporter Juliet Papa for more information on the event, de Blasio said, “We expect a large, wonderful celebration.”
“We’re going to have some clear, smart rules to keep everyone safe,” the mayor added. “By tomorrow, we’ll unveil all the specifics... working out some final details with all the stakeholders involved. But expect a great moment in Times Square on New Year’s Eve.”
