NYPD hunt for suspect who 'snatched' yarmulke off boy's head, investigated as hate crime

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – An unidentified man approached an 8-year-old boy and forcibly removed a yarmulke off his head on March 22 in Brooklyn, police said Monday.

The suspect "snatched" the head covering, worn by observant Jewish males, the NYPD tweeted.

The incident happened around 5:45 p.m. in the NYPD's 66th Precinct coverage area, which serves the Borough Park section of Brooklyn, including Midwood and Kensington.

The suspect then fled the scene.

NYPD's Hate Crimes Unit is investigating the incident.
