NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Thousands of bees were removed from a Times Square restaurant's outdoor dining area Sunday, days after the NYPD collected another swarm just blocks away.

“Times Square was buzzing today!” the NYPD tweeted. “@NYPDBees was called in to safely remove 2,000 bees from a restaurant seating area near the crossroads of the world.”

NYPD beekeeper Det. Robert Travis gathered the bees from the dining structure of Havana Central Times Square on W. 46th Street, just east of Seventh Avenue.

Photos from the NYPD show Travis using a special vacuum to suck up the bees in a process that doesn’t harm the insects.

"The bees will now be relocated to an area where their pollenating skills will be put to good use," the NYPD said.

Just last week, an “unBEElievably large crowd” of bees was removed from a fire hydrant at Third Avenue and East 47th Street in Midtown.
