Brendan Marmolejos died on July 27 at NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue, one week after police said Dwayne C. Bovell struck him at Vernon Boulevard as Marmolejos was zipping westbound on 44th Drive in Long Island City.

Marmolejos was ejected from the scooter as a result of the impact and suffered serious head trauma.

Two days after the collision, the driver, Dwayne C. Bovell, surrendered to police with an attorney present, the Daily News reported.

The 40-year-old was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury, but a source told the outlet that the Queens District Attorney’s office delayed prosecution as they continued to investigate.

Murray's Cheese Bar in Long Island City, where Marmolejo worked as an assistant manager, posted on Facebook on Aug. 1 that "the past week has been an incredibly difficult time."

"Everyone in the Murray’s family is mourning the loss of our wonderful friend and colleague," the post continued. "Brendan’s warm, cheery energy is one of the first things that would greet you as you walked into Cheese Bar. No matter if you were a customer, a coworker, or friend, he made you feel welcome."

Marmolejos' cousin, Jason Meneses, wrote in a GoFundMe post that "the pain is immeasurable for all of us, but the support of friends and family have helped subside some of that pain."

"To know Brendan, is to love him," he continued. "Continue to keep him close to your heart and his spirit will live on forever."
