NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — An incarcerated man on Rikers Island was arranged on Monday on charges of attempted rape and sexual abuse, Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said.

Michael Cleaver, 56, allegedly tried to rape a nurse and forcibly touch a female correction officer on Rikers.
“The defendant allegedly forcibly touched a female correction officer,” Clark said. “Hours after that incident, the defendant allegedly attempted to rape a nurse assigned to the facility. He has been indicted for these appalling acts against women who work in the city’s jail.”
The incidents both occured on Nov. 12 when Cleaver allegedly lunged at the 39-year-old correction officer and groped her. Cleaver then allegedly forced a 51-year-old nurse into a room and locked the doors just hours after his first attack. He then allegedly put her the nurse in a bear hug, pushed her to the floor and sexually assaulted her.
Her screams alerted another Rikers detainee who broke the lock on the door and repeatedly punched Cleaver, Clark said.
