The incident occurred on Feb. 21, 2021 when 33-year-old Ramel Blount, a transgender woman who goes by Diamond Blount, attacked the victim as she was finishing a shower in the bathroom of the Rose M. Singer jail on Rikers.

Blount approached the woman from behind, pushed her down by applying pressure to the back of her neck, and raped her.

The victim reported the incident and had a rape kit done where Blount’s DNA was matched through the New York State Registry.

“Sexual violence against anyone is unacceptable,” Clark said. “The defendant has been sentenced to seven years in prison for the terrible attack.”

Blount pleaded guilty on April 7, 2022 and was given eight years of post-release supervision as well as the prison sentence. An order of protection was issued and Blount will also have to register as a sex offender.
