NEWARK, N.J. (WCBS 880) — Late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be honored next week by Rutgers University with the official renaming of a Newark residence hall to celebrate her legacy.

Rutgers will officially celebrate the renaming of its 17-story 15 Washington Street building, its previous law school building, on Dec. 5 at 5 p.m.
Over 300 undergraduate, graduate and law students, as well as the Rutgers-Newark's Chancellor Nancy Cantor, call the residence hall home.

Ginsburg taught at the university's Newark law school from 1963 to 1972, ahead of her historic rise to the nation's highest court.
The university said Ginsberg's daughter, Jane Ginsberg, also a law professor, Rutgers University President Jonathan Holloway, Rutgers University Board of Governors Chair Mark Angelson and Cantor will be present at the event.
Holloway announced the designation last year, following her death in September 2020.
"When I think of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, I hope future generations will understand her perseverance, her clear-eyed pursuit of justice and equity, and her care for those people who are often seen as voiceless or without history," he said. "These are the principles that Ginsburg stood for. I think they are the principles that Rutgers stands for, and I’d love for future generations to understand how they are connected in that way."
