Officials found shell casingings on the Northbound 4 train and at the 183rd Street station in Fordham Heights.
Police are still investigating whether shots were also fired on the train, the New York Post reported.
Authorities are searching for a man in his 20s and a woman who they believe are connected with the incident, but information is sparse.
The shooting comes less than a week after 10 people were shot in a mass shooting at a Brooklyn subway station.
