“Without warning or provocation, this defendant allegedly assaulted an innocent man simply because of his Jewish faith,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said. “Crimes that target individuals because of their religion, race, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation are a threat to everything we stand for here in Brooklyn.”

The teen, Logan Jones, 18, along with five other individuals allegedly approached the Jewish man, 21, wearing traditional Hasidic attire,  and his wife as they made their way to Shabbat services on April 1, around 8 p.m in Gerry Street.

Jones allegedly punched the Jewish man and later with two others repeatedly kicked the victim. The victim fell to the ground trying to escape by sliding under a truck parked in the street. Jones and the other five individuals fled the scene after the victim's wife asked a bystander to call 911, according to the investigation.

The victim suffered severe head and body pain and was left with a bruised face and mouth.

Jones was charged with third-degree assault as a hate crime, third-degree assault, third-degree menacing as a hate crime, and third-degree menacing, along with other charges.
