Paul Simon, Jennifer Hudson, Bruce Springsteen to headline Central Park 'Homecoming Concert'

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Three of the biggest names in music will be celebrating New York City's comeback this summer at a a mega-concert in Central Park.

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Thursday that Paul Simon, Jennifer Hudson and Bruce Springsteen will headline the "Homecoming Concert" on the Great Lawn in August.

"It is going to be a great moment for this city marking our rebirth, marking our comeback, and it's going to be one of the greatest Central Park concerts in history. This is something you do not want to miss, this is something for the ages," de Blasio said. "Three amazing artists have stepped forward and said they want to be part of the comeback of New York City, they want to help us do this."

Simon, a "proud son of Queens," previously headlined two concerts in Central Park in 1981 and 1991.

Springsteen recently brought back his show on Broadway helping to reopen the Great White Way.

De Blasio said Hudson, a Grammy and Oscar winner who came to fame through "American Idol," is "a great example of an artist who started at the grassroots" and "captures the grit and determination that we're all feeling as we fight through this crisis."

Music industry giant Clive Davis is producing the show.

More details, including the full lineup, will be announced at a later date.

Early plans called for eight "iconic" stars to perform a three-hour set in front of 60,000 people.

The concert would also be broadcast on TV worldwide.

The majority of tickets will be free, with some VIP seating.

The event, will be the centerpiece of what's being called a "Homecoming Week" for New York.

"Homecoming Week" is the brainchild of Danny Meyer intended to bring New Yorkers together to celebrate and support the city.
