A canoe was also found near the scene off Halifax Road, authorities added.

Responders said the body had apparently been in the water for several days and may have been the victim of a boating accident.

An investigation remains ongoing, Sgt. Curry added.

As of Wednesday afternoon, a spokeswoman for the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said the agency had no additional information to release.
