NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – “Summer Streets” will return to Manhattan this August, the city Department of Transportation announced Friday.
The annual event—which closes streets so people can walk, run, cycle and play—has taken place since 2008 but was discontinued last year during the pandemic.
The DOT said this year’s Summer Streets will happen on two Saturdays—Aug. 7 and Aug. 14—from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event will stretch nearly seven miles from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park, along Park Avenue, Lafayette Street and Centre Street.
“In accordance with statewide restrictions due to COVID-19, the Summer Streets initiative was temporarily discontinued,” the DOT said. “However, following the recent ban lifts and the undeniable success of the Open Streets and Open Restaurants program, DOT is excited to reactivate the Summer Streets program this August.”
