NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The Supreme Court of the United States has dismissed an appeal by a group of New York City public school teachers who sought to stop a vaccine mandate that did not include a religious exemption option.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who handles emergency requests out of the New York-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, denied the group's request months after she rejected an earlier challenge to the city's vaccine mandate.
Both rejections came with no explanation.
The latest failed appeal comes as the city is set to fire 3,000 municipal workers for their refusal to receive at least one vaccine dose.
Former Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the vaccine requirement for municipal workers in October. Workers who lost their bids for exemption had until this week to show proof of vaccination months.
The unvaccinated workers represent a small share of the city’s 370,000-person workforce, of whom about 95% have gotten at least one shot.
