NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A subway rider was repeatedly punched in the middle of the day at Queensboro Plaza in a suspected anti-Asian hate crime, police said Thursday.

The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the July 22 assault at the busy transit hub in Long Island City.

The 31-year-old victim was near the 7 train at 12 p.m. when his attacker stormed up and yelled anti-Asian insults at him, police said.

The man then struck the victim in the face repeatedly with a closed fist before fleeing the area.

The victim suffered pain and bruising to the left side of his face. He declined medical attention at the scene.
