NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Two teens were arrested and charged with attempted murder after one of them fired a stray bullet that hit an off-duty police officer last week, injuring him in the foot, police said Saturday.

The 16 and 17-year-old teen boys were arrested Friday night for the shooting of 47-year-old Robert Manley which occurred on Feb. 5 outside of the Manhattanville Houses’ community center near 130th Street.
Manley, who has been with the NYPD for 15 years, encountered the teens firing a gun while attending a memorial service, police said. Manley dove for cover while the two boys fled.
The NYPD believes the shooting stemmed from an earlier dispute between the two boys.
Manley, who at first did not know he was shot, told responding officers he started to feel pain in his left foot. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with minor injuries and was released hours later.
The 17-year-old was charged with attempted murder, assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon and criminal possession of a weapon while the 16-year-old was charged with attempted murder.
Neither of the two boys’ names were released because they are minors.
