NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Two-thirds of adults in New York have completed their COVID-19 vaccine series, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Sunday as he said the state was on the way to "slaying this COVID beast."
CDC data shows 66.6% of New Yorkers over 18 have completed their vaccine series, meaning they have gotten both doses of the two-dose Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or one dose of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
The share of New York adults who’ve gotten at least one vaccine dose is 73.1%, according to the CDC.
When people under 18 are taken into account, 60.9% of all New Yorkers have gotten at least one dose and 55.2% have completed their vaccine series, CDC data shows.
A total of 21,556,403 doses have been administered in the state, including 237,297 doses in the past week.
“Our metrics continue to show steady progress toward slaying this COVID beast,” Cuomo said in a statement as he urged the unvaccinated to “do so quickly at a vaccination site near you.”
New York reported one COVID-19 death on Saturday, matching the lowest number the state had previously seen since the pandemic began, Cuomo said.
There were 666 new cases statewide and 339 total patients hospitalized for the virus. The state’s seven-day positivity rate is 0.84%, while its single-day positivity rate on Saturday was 1.02%.
The state has seen an uptick in cases this month. The state Department of Health says a higher percentage of cases are linked to more contagious variants. New York City is driving much of the increase in positives, though cases are also rising in parts of Long Island.
