NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Police are searching for 13 more young suspects—including two who allegedly attacked a cop—in last Friday’s riot in Union Square.
The NYPD released photos Wednesday of the new suspects they’re searching for. All of them are believed to be young men or teen boys.
The 59-year-old officer was on-duty when he was assaulted with construction barrels at 3:45 p.m. Friday at East 14th Street and Union Square East.
Officers were trying to disperse a crowd when two males threw the construction barrels at him, striking him in the body, police said.
The officer suffered multiple injuries, including a head injury, according to cops.
Also being sought are three teens suspected of damaging an NYPD vehicle that was parked at 850 Broadway at 2 p.m. The trio kicked and jumped on the vehicle, causing the windshield to break, police said.

Another eight suspects are wanted for damaging a second NYPD vehicle in front of 830 Broadway at 4 p.m. They kicked and jumped on the vehicle, causing the windshield to break, according to police.

On Monday, the NYPD released images of even more suspects who allegedly jumped on an NYPD vehicle at 838 Broadway around 3:30 p.m., as well as a second group wanted for jumping on vehicles at Union Square East and East 14th Street at 3:50 p.m.
There have already been dozens of arrests in the riot, which police said was sparked by a social media influencer Kai Cenat, who also faces charges of inciting a riot and promoting an unlawful gathering.
The 21-year-old Twitch streamer drew thousands of his followers, many of them teens, to Union Square early Friday afternoon with promises of giving away electronics, including a new PlayStation 5.

The event produced chaos, with some people jumping atop vehicles, hurling bottles, throwing punches and cornering police.
Police said they arrested at least 65 people, including 30 juveniles, on Friday alone. Several people were injured, including some with bloodied faces. At least four people were taken away in ambulances.
Aerial TV news footage showed a surging, tightly packed crowd running through the streets, scaling structures in Union Square Park and snarling traffic. Shouting teenagers swung objects at car windows, threw paint cans and set off fire extinguishers. Some people climbed on a moving vehicle, falling off as it sped away. Others pounded on or climbed atop city buses.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
